Dennis E. Burke has practiced as a criminal defense lawyer in Dane County since his graduation from The University of Wisconsin Law School in 1972. He has won acquittals in countless jury trials, and has successfully defended thousands of men and women of every race and nationality charged with every conceivable crime. He was the first recipient of the prestigious William Coffey Award, given by the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers for “exceptional contributions to professionalism in the field of criminal law.” He has taught at the University of Wisconsin Law School and lectured on the art of trial advocacy.
Defense lawyers, prosecutors, and judges regard Denny as one of the best trial lawyers in Madison. No lawyer in Madison has tried more cases to a jury, or won more criminal jury trials than Denny. During his career, Denny has defended more homicide cases (five acquittals, two lesser verdicts and two cases dismissed prior to trial) than any other Madison lawyer. He has secured acquittals in numerous sexual assault trials, battery to police officer, burglary, drunk driving, forgery, theft, and sexual predator cases. He has had many clients in cases ranging from 1st degree murder to misdemeanors found not guilty by reason on mental disease or defect.
During his time as a public defender, The Wisconsin State Journal described Denny as “the best lawyer money can’t buy.” Denny is the attorney you want by your side when the going gets tough.
